About...
Welcome to Target Oriented Golf.
If you are frustrated by your inconsistency and interested in the psychology of golf, congratulations for you are striving to learn how to play the game. Give me 90 minutes of your time and in exchange I propose to present you with the best golf lesson of your life. It may sound surprising to you but learning technique is very different to learning how to play golf, it is the important foundation on which you can build your house. Now it is time to start building, otherwise you will waste your golfing life staring at the foundations wondering why you never really improve. Trust me, your foundations will be fine if you are visiting my web site for you will have arrived at a time in your golfing life where you intuitively know there is something missing from your game beyond technical instruction. Now the fun can really begin.
Target Oriented Golf is an educational DVD you will watch a number of times in order to fully appreciate the concepts presented for there is alot of detail. I have produced this unique DVD in order to demonstrate visually the mental skills required to play the game of golf. It was no small task and it is why this is the world's only practical guide to golf psychology on DVD. It shows you why and demonstrates how to apply the skills on the range and on the golf course. Watch it and you will change your understanding, enjoyment and performance when playing the game of golf for the rest of your life. It will change your golf paradigm and you will love the clarity of mind it brings to your game. The better your technique, the more you will benefit from this DVD. If you are trying to make a living from playing the game, it is essential viewing.
Cut through the marketing hype for a moment, the endless stream of golf 'tips', wonderous new ways of slicing your handicap by sitting in your living room listening to hypnosis CD's (leave the subconscious alone to manage your actions!) or exciting new ways to smash your ball 400yds into the trees! You know there are NO quick or easy fixes. You actually have to go to the range and practice arousal control, concentration, targeting and acceptance just like your technique and Target Oriented Golf will show you why and how. The game of golf deserves so much more respect than it is afforded by the golf marketing machine for it is a true mental challenge. Tips should be outlawed in my opinion for what you require is a comprehensive demonstration of the psychological skills required to play the game of golf. So, I decided to produce it!
Playing Golf is about hitting a ball at a target. The better you learn this skill, the fewer number of times you have to do it to get around the course. I watch many professional golfers and it amazes me how often they pay no attention to the target. They look but do not see. They have not been trained in these advanced golf skills either and struggle, just like you. Their performance plateaus with occasional peaks, just like yours, only at a different level due to their better technical skills. Working only on your technique is not learning how to play golf, it only re-inforces your doubt in your ability to play. You never get to fly, instead you play golf like a tethered balloon and you should be asking who is holding the string? Golf is played with your eyes on the ball and your mind on the target. Mind on the target
The most important skill to master in order to to play consistent golf is attentional focus. It is the difference between looking and seeing, hearing and listening. It is metacognition and it must be trained on the range. In time you will switch your attention away from your technique. You are not taught how to do this today. Everything else you learn about golf in your life is purely preamble. It is not what you want to be paying attention to out on the course! It is preparation for that moment in time when you are on the course, attention focused on the target and you let go. Yet golfers so rarely do this. You try and control the shot outcome and the outcome will always be out of your control, hence the anxiety when you play. The very elite professionals are best at targeting. The very best is Tiger Woods. He is the best at targeting and it has nothing to do with his swing. The skills which set him apart happen before and after the swing. It is here, in these critical seconds, where I do my work. It takes 90 minutes to explain and yet only seconds to execute when you master it.
So few players ever get to focus on the target on a consistent basis. Unfortunately, you get lost along the way like trying to tune an old wireless. Your attention so rarely finds the target as you attempt to swing or putt for it gets disturbed by your inner voice randomly switching your attention on to totally irrelevant details like swing triggers, controlling your takeaway, your equipment, the out of bounds, the water, the bunker, the score and shot outcomes. Where has the target gone when you are paying attention to all this nonsense? Your mind switches between the past and the future in an instant and you do not realise the impact this is having on your physiology and performance. The target is so far from your mind and you wonder why you are so inconsistent. Rarely do you play in the moment as you are right now reading this article. You never will until you change the way you practice golf.
Occasionally, the stars align and you have that great day on the course and you spend your days wondering why you can not play that way on a regular basis. Golfers go through their golfing lives forever blaming their technique for their poor performances for that is all you are taught to train on the range, so you have no alternative than to do so. This is due simply to your incomplete golf education and your frustation on the course is indicative of this. Believe me, there is so much more you can train on the range and it is these mental skills of golf which seperate the winners from the rest, not their technical skills. The time and energy you are wasting on the range should be classified as a crime against humanity.
Understanding why, where, when and how to focus your attention within your practice and playing routines is the essence of Target Oriented Golf. Until you understand these skills, you will continue to struggle to play the game of golf. With these skills, you will love it. For you will finally understand your game. Target Oriented Golf is no quick fix. It is a comprehensive approach to playing the game and it requires practice and dedication, just as your technique does. You will receive a performance spike from simply watching the DVD due to a new comprehension about your game but the real benefits come from getting to the range and working on these skills after and in time, instead of your technical practice.
I also teach the game of golf in a very practical sense both on the range and on the golf course. You simply bring along your great swing and an open mind and I will help you apply the theory I present on the DVD. Teaching Professional golfers or 12 year old talents is no different. It simply comes down to the individuals desire to understand the great game of golf beyond developing technical proficiency. I do not require or request any of your personal details in order to do my work as a Performance Coach. Services offered by psychologists/counsellors often require your personal details and focus on explaining an individual's personality and motivations for playing the game. Target Oriented Golf focuses on explaining the psychology of the game itself, its effect on you and how your thoughts and behaviours impact your performance. I hope you can see the difference.
If you found some of my comments confrontational, great for change can only occur in your game when you challenge your existing paradigm. Have a look around the site for in the words of Karen Carpenter "We've only just begun....". Albert was right. Paradigms do not shift unless you want them to shift. If you continue to do as you as always have done, you can be sure you will continue to perform the way you always perform. That is a waste of your time, talent and potential. Reading this article is not going to improve your golf for it is just another tip. If it has struck a chord with you, please treat yourself to a 90 minute golf lesson and take a look at my DVD for written words will never teach you how to play golf.
When I had my eureka moments there was no turning back. I really wish the same for you in your golfing life. Take the leap, you will love it.
